I could put a whole lot of lists here. Maybe a list of lists. And then some. But instead I thought best to keep it simple. As tempting as it is, I’m going to avoid even getting into anything about the holy trinity of music, artwork and pressing, the smell of the vinyl, weight, feel, touch and what have you, but rather, leave things firmly in the ‘you may want to check this out’ pile. There’s also nothing particularly chronological about any of this, not much system at all now that I think about it. No. It’s more that, on occasion, I’m listening to something and I can’t help but think that other people may enjoy doing the same.
6lp box set released 2012 on Rune Grammofon.
Nordic melancholia gift-wrapped in a floral box.
lp released 2015 on Sacred Bones Records.
Love And Death
lp released 2010 on Strut.
First international release of the 79 year old Ghanaian. Crackle’s gone but the swagger most definitely hasn’t. Worth it for the title track alone.
8cd box set released 2015 on ReR.
Eight of their albums in a box. That’s it. No new material. No new packaging. For anyone already owning the albums, completely pointless, but for those that don’t, get it now.
Akosh S. Unit
cd released 2001 on Universal Music Jazz France.
Heard this in Paris and immediately searched out all the Akosh releases I could dig up. So much going on I’m not sure where I’d start. So I won’t. Excellent.

30 years of Dark Star.
lp released 2014 on Smalltown Supersound.
DJ Harvey (yep, Harvest Barrett) does psyche. Bang on West Coast.
The Acoustic Machine – Volume I
2xlp released 2011 on Ici d’Ailleurs.
Picked this up at Balades Sonores after some rather full on (read physical) coercion. Actually, that’s not true at all. It was more a light nudge and I opted to take both volumes.
2xlp released 2013 on Drag City.
Sunn O))) meets Boris meets Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter, and quite probably not in the way you might imagine.
Skin Of Evil
lp released 2009 on Soft Abuse.
Jo Ha Kyū
lp released 2013 on Modest Launch.
Haino, Tomokawa, Sakamoto, Otomo et al. In the same place, at the same time. Yes.
Let your hands be my guide
lp released 2013 on Gizeh Records.
Three of us in a van going a long, long way. Put this on. Not a word. Beautiful.
lp released 1977 on JAPO
Fantastic Thomas Stöwsand production with Leroy Lowe on drums. Not nearly as well known as the ECM releases of the time, but dig for it.
lp released 2014 on Ekler’o'shock.
Yeah. Crazy. Crazy. Crazy.
Adrian Utley’s Guitar Orchestra
lp released 2013 on Invada Records.
The work is well known, but this reading is something new. Worked for me.
