Machinefabriek (Rutger Zuydervelt) combines elements of ambient, noise, drone and field recordings producing what could perhaps best be described as sonic environments. A regular collaborator, having worked with artists including Steinbrüchel, Peter Broderick, Mats Gustafson and Stephen Vitiello, he and Gareth Davis have worked together since 2009. Their first encounter was in the studio and resulted in the release of their first EP “Soundlines“. Moving between jazz inspired improvisations, re-workings of numbers from the Standards Songbook through drone soundscapes, soundtracks and interpretations of 20th and 21st century academic repertoire, they have produced five full length albums and a number of EPs. In 2016 they started working together with Australian film maker Karel Doing on a series of live visual events using archival 8mm footage.
